MOTORCYCLE RALLY BY INDIAN COAST GUARD 19 Jan 2015: Continuing with its efforts to strengthen Coastal Security setup along the coast of Kerala and Mahe, the Coast Guard District Headquarters No.4, at Fort Kochi organised the sixth Motorcycle Rally to spread coastal security awareness along 520 Kms long coast. A total of twenty six participants from Indian Coast Guard & Kerala State Police are taking part in the rally. The rally was flagged off by Deputy Inspector General Harpreet Singh, Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Air Enclave in presence of Shri. Venu, Asst Commissioner of Police, Kochi. The objective of the rally was to sensitise the coastal populace and fisher community on coastal security awareness, importance of carrying valid documents while fishing, recent threat developments, need for individual contributions towards “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Each team consisting of 07 motor cyclists set off to Beypore in the North and Vizhinjam in South. During the rally printed materials and handouts on Coastal Security Awareness and distress at sea will be distributed to fishermen and coastal populace along the coast. The team will return to Kochi on 22 Jan after visiting about 25 coastal villages along the route. The participants will interact with local administration and visit Coastal Police Stations for exchange of information. The rally was sponsored by BPCL Kochi refinery. Speaking on the occasion, DIG Harpreet Singh informed the press that this was the first Motor Cycle rally in the current year which this Headquarters had been organising for last five years. He called upon the Coastal Police and Fisheries Department to join with the Coast Guard in spreading Coastal Security Awareness along Kerala Coast.
