ICSI becomes the only institute in the world so far to have issued Secretarial Standards
Hyderabad, May 11, 2015….. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). a national professional body set up to develop and regulate the profession of company secretaries which has over 35,000 members and over 4 lakh students on its rolls today announced Secretarial Skills Development Program Nationally here in Hyderabad on a trial basis. The pilot project is just kicked off, once becomes successful, it will be replicated all over India, informed Atul H Mehta, it National President, while talking to the media at Hyderabad Chapter office on Monday. He was on a day visit to the city and addressed the press conference along with their members.
Giving more details, he said skills development program is being targeted at youth who are graduates and under graduates and are about to enter the work force in the near future and they can extensively use this program for choosing their career in company secretaryship course. This 15 days classroom training offers thorough knowledge about secretarial aspects. They will have 30 days of practical training at various PCS Firms/Companies. The fee charged for the same is Rs 5000/-The course is commenced from today.
The key take-aways of the program are how to incorporate a company; how to maintain the secretarial records, how to prepare minutes and how to file necessary forms. All the youth can utilize this program and harness their skills to be a fit workforce in the corporate world in the segment of Secretarial department, he said.
Also he informed that ICSI is starting huge Campus in Bhopal where the intake will be well above 1000students. The in principal allocation of land has already been procured.
Speaking about Centre for Excellence which is currently under construction in Uppal in city with a well over 50,000 sq ft built up area will be ready by December 2015. The second such canter after Mumbai involving an investment of Rs 20crore would offer opportunity for students from entire south India to pursue CS training with hostel facility.
ICSI has recently issued Secretarial Standards approved by the Central Government. The same are now notified by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India. These standards will become effective from 1st July this year. With these new Secretarial Standards issued, ICSI has become the pioneer and the only institution in the world so far to have issued the same.
Section 118(10) of the Companies Act, 2013 mandates companies to observe Secretarial Standards with respect to General and Board Meetings specified as such by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Secretarial Standards apply to all companies. One Person Companies are excluded informed Mehta.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has accorded its approval to the Secretarial Standards on meetings of the Board of Directors(SS-1) and General Meetings (SS-2) specified by the institute of Company Secretaries of India. These standards were formally launched last month in Delhi, he said.
ISCI is pioneered and only institution to have issued Secretarial Standards in the world so far. These standards are the tools in furtherance of the Secretarial Standards which would benefit the industry and the regulators and would help repose more confidence in the institutional investors. It is a historical moment for ICSI to be the first institute to issue these standards. And will be effective in next fifty days and around 8 lakh companies in India will have to comply with these Secretarial Standards to be fully compliant under companies Act 2013, he said.
The Secretarial Standards would help in ease of doing business, improve governance, build confidence in the minds of investors, improves compliance level and ultimately lead to flow of capital in India and achieve the government’s objective of make in india, he added.
